Barefaced Theft at New Plymouth — — 4 Tw© men wbo described tbemselves as sbowmen and salesmen were convicted in' tbe Foliee Court at New Plymouth of stealing eigbt lengtbs of suitings, valued at £18 10/-, the property of H. R. Wright, tailor, of Devon street, New Plymouth, on September 7, and one of them admitted receiving from some person at present unknown cAe otber lengtb of suiting valued at £30, well knowing at tbe time tbat tbe material bad been dishonestly obtained. Both men admitted a number of previous convietions for offbnces involving disbonesty. Detective-Sergeamt Jarrold said that on tbe day in question Mr. Wright was in bis workroom upstairs and bearing someone in tbe sbop be eame down and foun^. Thomson looking at some lengths of suiting. He said be wanted a suit and on bis request Mr. Wright put aside tbree lengtbs for him to have a look at again later on after he had been round town to see if be could obtain anytking nearer to wbat be -actually wanted. He said be would be baek in about a couple of bours. Subsequently Mr. Wright discovered tbat tbe lengths selected and five otherg were missing from bis sbop and tbe accused had not been baek to see about a suit. The Magistrate postponed sentence.
