AUCKLAND. Ihis Day. An important stage in the electrificntion of the New Zealand raiiways will begin ehortly with the arrival from £nglaiid of a streamlined electric looo* motive, the largest of the kind evo* Advice has beon received by the Kailway Department that the engme nas left the works of the builders at New eastle-on-Tyne. It will be used between Wellington and Paekakariki and is the llrst of ten similar engines. The other nine are to be built in. New Zealand from drawings supplied by the builders of the first, Hawthorn, Leslie and Co. A safety devico will protect the engine crews against the danger of eleetrooution in the interior. The engines will resemble submarines with long corridors and sealed compartments.
