FAT CATTLE RATES Large Yarding at Stortforc To-Day GISBORNE DRAFTS A drop of fully 30/; a liead for fat cattl'e took place at Stortford Lodge to-day, -wlien tliere -was a large yarding of 300 head. A big draft caine forward from the GiSr borne district and included 50 head of female cattle on account of Messrs Hair Bros., Paritu Station. A total of 189 -head arrived this morning by rail from Tutira, Wairoa and Gisborne districts. The cattle were all in good order. The quality for all the better pens in this draft was good, they having been well wintered. Competition continued to be surprisingly keen, and the better quality pens sold readily. Hair Bros.' pens of heifers and cows again topped the market when £14' 3/6 was reaehed for heifers and £13*6/- for eows. On account of Mokopeka Station was offered a draft bf good heifers which were smaller grown than the northern pens. Secondary^ quality lines of cows aged and showing very plain quality, were the most affected by the big yarding, and these lines were slow to trade. Bntchers showed a preference for quality, and best female pens made fully 35/- per 1001b. Ox beef wais in very short supply and generally lacked finish. Realisations were as under: — OX BEEF PRICES. - On account of Mr. Guthrie Smith, Tutira, an ehtry of eight Aberdeen Angus and Hereford cross medium-! grown bullocks, light to medium finish, sold to £11 15/-. On aceoiint of Mr. F. L. Tiffen, "JJlms Hill," Elsthorpe, seven w.ellframed Shorthorn bullocks, looking rather empty af ter being on the road for several days, sold to £14 10/-. HEfFER RATES. " On account of Mr. Guthrie Smith, Tutira, an entry of Aberdeen Angus-. Hereford 'cross heifers, medium to heavy and carrying quite a good finish. sold at £9 18/6. #On account of the same vendor, elght elean-bred small-grown Aberdeen Angus heifers ranged from £6 13/- to £7 -10/-. These heifers wero in light to medium order only. ■ The following pen from the same source, showing better ilnisji, brought to £S 17/6. On account of Mokapeka Station, eight aiedium-framed clean-bred Aberdeen. Angus heifers, showing a good finish, a useful line whieh should klll out well, sold to £10 2/-. On account of the same vendor,- an entry of smaller-grown heifers and lighter finished than the previous pen, sold to £8 16/-. From the same source, eight similarbred heifers, a little heavier than the previous pen, sold to £9 1/-. The final pen of " Mokapeka" well brod Aberdeen Angus heifers, a quality pen and in good order, sold to £10. On account of Hair Bros., Paritu Station, Gisborne, an entry of heavy vvell-framed Aberdeen Angus heifers, prime finish, and in splendid order, rcalring an attractive quality ofilering, ' oold to £13 15/- aceording tq weight. On account of the same vendors, six heavy Hereford and Shorthorn heifers, prime finish, choice young beef, - sold to £14 3/6. , A further pen of Paritu Station Shorthorn cross heifers, not quite so > well grown as the previous pen but well finished, sold to £11 15/-.- . - COW BEEF VALUES On account q£ Hair - Bros., Paritu Station, Gisborne, eight niedium-fram-erl dehomed Hereford cows, well finished and showing quality, ranged from £10 7/0 to £12 10/-. On aeeount of the same veudors, seven ciean-bred well-framed Aberdeen Angus cows, not so well finished as the previous pen and plainer in quality, sold at £8 10/-. From the same course, seven Short-horh-cross medium-framed oows, wellfinished, sold to £10 5/-. A further entry of Paritu Station lieavy cows, solidly finished, a giood quality pen, which should kill out well sold al'ter keeu bidding to £13 6/-.
