REGENT THEATRE

"SWEET ALOES" TO-NIGHT. "Sweet Aloes," a dynamic drama reveaiing the human emotions of love, passion, hate and eacrifice, screens at the Regent Theatre to-night with Kay Franeis in the stellar role. The. picture, a CospiQpolitan production xeleased by Warner Bros., is based on the smashing stage • hit, "Sweet" Aloes," by Jay Mailory. The plot of the play is ultramodern anil startlingiy. daring, and altkough frank in treatment, is nandled with the utmost good taste, George Brent has the role of the Amerieaa husband of Miss. Franeis, and gives a sterling performance, as also do Roland Young as the play wright, and Patric Knowles as the nobleman involved in the romanee. Frieda Ineseort has created a remarkable character jn the nobleman 's wife, who adopts the other woman's child as her own. She brings to her portrayal great charm and -intelligence. Henry Stephenson is excellent in the role of the English lord and .grandfather of the child he plans to maka his heir, as also is Halliwell Hobbes, father of Miss Franeis, who dies as she is about to tell him of her difficulties. Helen Flint givea a fine performance as an American doctor, with whom tha playwright falls in love. The first half of the programme has been carefully arranged, and includes the March of Time series and the Springboks v. Hawke's Bay match.
