U.S & WORLD PEACE "We Must Contribute," Says Mr Cordell HuII PRESERVATION OF LAW

(Received 21, 10.40 a.m.) NEW YORK, Sept, 20. Mr Cordell Hull, Seeretary of State, delivered an address at the Interhational Peace Conference to-day. In his speeeh, which was bfoadcast, Mr Hull said that he realised the futility of attempting to ensure peace for the United States by means of isolation. "We must contribute to the conditions upon which |>eace everywhere can be maintained, or ultimately we muet protect and sustain ourselves in a world ridden with war and force, ' ' Mr Hull etated, "The security of the United States would be seriously jeopardised if international anarchy replaced law." Mr MacKenzie King, the Prime Minister of Canada, contributing a
broadcast speech from Ottawa, said that the means of crcating an enduring peace lay in economie co-operation. In clarifying his broadcast speech, Mr, Hull said that the Uuited States must take a middle course between extreme isolation and aggression and must supplement its present policy of isolation by contributing to and encouraging conditions promoting peace, Oherwise, he said, the United States would ultimately be forqed to protect and sustain itself amidst a world ridden by war and force. He cited trade agreements as an effective means of binding together the nations in enduv ing peace.
