KNOCK-OUT TO MARIST Champions Beaten by Napier Old Boys SEMI-FINALS REACHED The first round of the Lane Oup knock-out competition was commenced in Hastings and Napier on Saturday afternoon, when. ideal conditions prevailcd. For all that the standard of Rugby playcd was .far from good, and the games, for the most part, were umnteresting' and ragged. The attendances were very poor, indicating lack of interest after wha,t has been rather & full season. ^ ■ The only surprise of the first round was the defeat of Marist, Ihe ehampionship holders, by Napier ll.S.O B. in the only game played at Napier. M.A.C. sceri-ed a good wiu over Tcchnical Old Boys, as did Celtic over Hastings H.S.O.B., while Pirates had pn easy win by default. In the lower grades sectional finals were played, as well as vital games in the knock-out competition in the junior grade section.
