Manawatu Championship

PALMERSTON N., Sept. 37. Playing cOnsistent golf, Mrs. J. F. Field, Manawatu, beat Miss C. Wilson, Manawatu, 2 and 1, in the final of the open championship of the Manawatu Ladies' Golf Club on the Hokowhitu links to-day. Her approach shots and putting were excellent, and her long game was very straight. The players were all square at the ninth, but Mrs. Field was one up at the next hole. The game was closely t'ought to the seventeenth, and Miss .Wilson failed to hole out on the last green to keep the. game gomg. The final of the Hokowhitu Handicap was fought out between two good golfers, Miss? M. Evans, Manawatu, iinally defeating Miss D. Todd, Masterton, 2 and 1. Miss Evans went out m 41, and Miss Todd in 43. A feature of the game was the long driving by both eoinpetitors and the good approach shots. Miss Evans was dormy two at the seventeenth. Results are as follows: — Open Championships. — 8omi-finals: Mts. Field beat Miss S. Collins (Featherston), 2 up; Miss Wilson beat Mrs. A. N. Slater (Hutt), 1 up. Final: Mrs. Field beat Miss Wilson, 2 and 3. Hokowhitu Handicap. — Semi-fmals :* Miss Evans beat Miss Brodie (Welling. tpn), 6 and 5; Miss Tod beat Mrs. Paterson (Hutt), 1 up. Final: Miss Evans beat Miss Todd, 2 and 1. Ekstedt Handicap. — S,emi-linals: Miss J. Lane (Ashburton) beat Miss M. Cuff (Dannevirke), 2 and 1; Mrs. E. Wimsett (Manawatu) beat Mrs. A. G. Lawson (Manawatu), 1 up at the twentieth. Final: Mrs. Wimsett beat Miss Land, 2 up. * Manawatu Handicap. — Semi-finals: Miss Y. Rapley (Manawatu) beat 3\lrs. D. O. Williams (Hutt), 6 and 5; Mrs. G. Duncan (Miramar) beat Mrs. A. Fleming (Hutt), 1 up at thc nineteenth. Final: Mts, Duncan beat Miss Rapley, 1 up at the nineteenth.
