Gisborne Fiirniture Factory FLAMES LEAP 50 FEET
(By Telegraph-
GISBORNE, This Day. One of the most spectacular fires in Gisborne for a eonsiderable time completely destroyed Humphrey's Furuiture Factory in Carnarvon streat about midnight, The fire had a strong hold when it was noticed about 11.40 p.m., and although the Fire Brigade Was quickly on the scene the task with which it was confronted on arrival was hopeless. Fanned by a stifl? southerly wind the flames rapidly swept through the*' structure, the dry timber and furniture burning readily, At times when the wind f reshened the flames leapt, skyward to a height of about 50 feet, and lighted the locality for some distance around. The intense heat from within the four iron walls of the structure added greatly to the difficulties under which the firemen worked.
