WELLINGTON, Last Nigbt. William Albert John Gray Kcmpton. driver of the truck that collided with a L'arterton-Masterton bus and l'ailed to stop, was sentenced to three months' bard labour by Mr Justice Smith in tbe Supreme Court. His Honour said he could not nccept the view that the prisoner thought he had struck a watertahle. The blow must have been severe, and it was a matter of good fortune that the persons in the bus were not seriously injured. He had eome to the conclusion that the statute had been directly enacted to assist in preserving the safety of travellers on the highway, and in his judgraent it had been enforced, ! and the only way it could bo enforced 1 was imprisoumeut. i
