PALESTINE SCHEME
(British Offioial Wireless.)
League Approval Sought by Britain PLANNING OF DETAILS
(Eeceived 15, 12.40 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 14. In addressing the League Council at Geneva on Palestine, the British Foreign Minister, Mr Anthony Eden} said that the problem was Diot one which eoncerned only Arahs and Jews nor one for which the British Goverament alone was required to find a solution. The problem con-eerned the League as a whole, and the British Government would be unable to proceed without being assured of the approval of the Council for tho course Britain proposed to follow. The British Government, Mr Eden added, still adhered to its opinion that the echeme of partition on general lines recommended by the commissipn repre•ented the best and most hopeful solution. All he ashed at this stage was that the British Government should be given authority to work out *the details. He proposed that the Council should appoint a special body to visit Palestine to negotiate with the Arabs and Jews and submit to the British Government proposals for a detailed scheme of partition. This body would also undertake and other inquiries. At a later ■tage a boundary commission woul'i have to be appointed. Mr W. J, Jordan. (New Zealand), !n supporting Mr Eden, said he hoped that, whilc all local aspects would be considered, the neeessity would be obaerved of finding an adequate national home for the JeWs in that part of the world to which they had originally belonged. He alsp emphasised the degirability of bringing together repregenig, tiveg of thp Jews and Arabs in conference.
