Waipawa County Plails Improvements

WAIPAWA, Last Night. - Arising out of the officers' reports the following ivorks were authorised at the monthly ineeting of the Waipawa County Council.— * In the Waipawa riding a bad washout ou the Otane-Argyil road is to receive iuimediato attention. The effgmeef'fj estimate of inetalling Mantell street, Tikokino, was approved atid the work authorised to be done. Hiekey's road in tlie Ongaonga riding is to be.repaired The road uear the Makaretu turn-off, which bas scoured bttdiy with the recent rains is to receive attention, ahti ctfts are to be made with the grader to divert the water. To obviate fiooding on Mr Masterman's land at Marakeke the drams are td be cleared. Mr Paulsen Was given permission to instal culverts from his propefty. The threatened fiooding of tlie Ashcroft- Waipukurau road was discussed at lfength and the matter was left in the thought best. The engineer reported that a very dangerous situation had arisen at this place.. In connection with the proposa] to revise tho Fofest Gate Watorirace system, tlie engineer Was instructed to pfepare plans of the area affected. Ceneral Matters, Miss M. H. Bueiuiiiali wroto agt'eeiug to give a strip of land to widon tho road at Tikokino 'ihe oll'er was aooeptod and a letter of tliauks is to be lorwardcd to Miss Bucliauan. Tbo management of tho estate of the lute Mr E. G. llathbone is to be requested to instal a floodgute. The Hampden Dolnain Board forwarded partiouiars of suggested improvements to Mi's J. H. Mathews' Meinorial PUrk, including l'enemg and tree-plant-ifig. This Was left in the hands ot Mr iiutier and tlie engineer. The Chief Postiuaster wrote asking the council to pay half the cost of tarr ing the footpath in Tront of the Takapau Post Office. The council was of the opinion that the department should do this work, as the business people had been responsible lor the tarring oi their sections of path. The estimate of cost of making the Smedley Estate telephone lines metalllc ivas relerred back to the iinesman for further particulars. The noxious weedn inspector asked that any cases of ragwort be uotified at once, as this weed was spreading rapidly. Tendei's are to be called for tlie clearuig of tlie Argyll Water Uaee, and an estimate secured oi tbe cost of renewing tbe pound board at Tikokino. Tlie purchase of a wilich by tbe engineer was approved,
