MR. F. J. SHANLY

jMr Fratfcis Joseph Shanly, a former resident of Napier, who was for many years actively associated with choral »nd orchestral societies in Hawke5s Bay, passed away in Wellington. Mr Stanly was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs ±\ Shanly, of Dannevirke. He was born in Exeter, England, knt came to New Zealand at an early »ge, residing in Christchurch, Napier and Waipawa, before re-visiting England on two qccasions to atudy art, Later Mr Shanly moved to Wanganui, where he was engaged in business until i'our years ago, when he lef t to xeside at Lower Hutt. For the past 18 months ko had lived in Wellington. Mr Shanly was actively - associated with. choral and orchestral societies in the Hawke's Bay and Wanganui districfs, receiving the honour of being preseuted with a gold lyre in 10c og Ditton of servicCs rendered at 2h consccutive concerts of the^ Wanganui , Malo ChOir. At the" time of his death Mr Shanly was a valued member of St. Joseph 5s choir, Wellington. He leaves a widow and three broth•rs— Messrs- G. --and L. Shanly, Lower Hutt, and H. Shanly, Tiratu — and also hve sisters — Sisters CatheTine and Pia, Mrs Corry, Napier, and tlie' Misses Shanly, Dannevirke. . -
