Wife Appears On Assault Charge

ASHBURTON, Last Night. A scnsutional shooting affair took plaee at 84 Kermode street, next to the police station ,this morning, rcsultiug in Albert William Murdoch, a middleaged carrior, being taken to hospital in a seriotls condition suffering from a bullet wound in the jaw and ucck. The police are most reticent regarding the affair, statlng at first that it was an accideutal occurrenco and that owiug to shock and his general condition it was inipossibio to question Murdoch. Subsequently, however, tho victiin's wife, Ellen Anne Murdoch, appeared beforo Justices charged with assault so as to causo actual bodily harnn On the appllcation of the police, accused was roiuaiided till Friday on bail of £50, being required to report daily to tho police, It appoars that the rifle concerned was left behind the door of the washhouse by Murdoch's eldest son after a sllooting expedition, but there is no information as to whethor it was then loaded. „
