Special Meeting To Consider Dr. Watt's Comments LETTER FROM MINISTER The comments of the Director-Gen-eral of Health, Dr. M, H. Watt, on tho report of the recent Royal Oom-i mission of Inquiry into Napier hospital matters are to bo considered by members of the Hawke's Bay Hospital Board at a special meeting to he held on Monday, Beptember 27. The Director-General is to he invited to attend. At yesterday's meeting of. the board, copies of tlio comments were made available to members, and tbo chairman, Mr O. Lassen, considered it Was necessary that they should be first eurefully studied before a discussion was taken. In this view he was heax'tily supported by Mr G. O. Morse. The comments were forwarded by the Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Fraser who expressed his readiuess to arrange for Dr. M. H. Watt, or other officers of the Department, to confer with tho board if desired. "In reply to your letter of July 26, I wish to say that the DirectorGeneral of Health has forwarded me his comments upon the report of tho Royal Commission which recently sat to inquire into giatters affeeting the Napier Hospital," read the Minister's letler. "In his melnorandum he has made recoftinjen dations which will be a guide to your board in dealingj with the report, "and I therefore attach n copy for ybur board' s information. "I shatl be glad if your board will now consider the report and the comments of the Director-General, and will let me know in. due course of your decisions. 'Tf any alteration of the board's by-laws is required to give effect to any of the recommendatious I sliall be very pleased to gjive consideration to auy representations you have to mako in this direction. I shal] also be only too pleased to arrange for the Direc-tor-General or other. offiees of the Department to confer with your board i required." "I will move that the Minister's letter be received and that we liold tt special meeting of the board to consider Dr. Watt's comments," Said the chairman. "I have been to Wellington recently, and eonferred with the Dir-ector-General, who expressed a desire to attend the meeting). The report ha« just been made available to members, Who have not had an opportfinity oi perusing it." In seconding the chairman 's motion to hold a special meeting, Mr G. O. Morse said that it would be impossiblo for members to look over the report and fully discuss its merits. He agreed that it should he deferred for discussion at a special meeting. In arraitging for the holdirigj of the special meeting, it was deeided that the Minister be asked to arrange for Dr. Watt tq attend.
