Tho corncr of Kaponga road had been further splayed back, iiJling had been placed at the foot of tho well of drums, the water-tables had been straightened, but a suinp had yet to be put in at the culvert which cx'oseed the road. A stock entrance had been provided f'ox' on the upper part of the property. Three drives had been formed and the property could be used for burial purposes at any time. The committee suggested that the'soil on top of the filling should be disced and that the board should consider sowing the land with suitable grass seed. "Further paths have been formed m blocks D, E and F, so that all development work is now woll forxvard. From Monday next the sexton will be ihe only man employed on the property and, a§ we have spent all available money, we recommend that no further development work be undortaken for some months. ' ' The board decided to inspeet tbe section referred to in ihe report before any decision regarding the leasing of this was considered. The electrical committee reported having, in coinpany with the clerk^ visited Napier road at night. "While an extra 4ight on the ceutre pole between £Jt. Hill's Lane and tho Oxisting street light at Mr A. L. Allan's gate would be an impro vernon t and of benefit to the ratepayers in that particnlar area. We are of opinion that there are other streets in the district which are servicing a larger number of ratepayers, and which are not nearly as well lighted as Napier road," the committee pointed out. McHarby street, from Gillean street to EHison road, had no ligkts at all; Tanner street had only one light at tlie cemetery; Joll road had no lights from Mitchells corner to the bounadary and Campbell road was not sufiiciently lighted, nor was Nigel street, "Although we were given power to act in. this matter we recommend tkar, a full report on the desirability of installing further street lamps should be prepared," it concluded. The board instructed the commlttco to draw up a report as suggested, together with estimates of tho cost of carrying put any alterations reconimended. Accounts totalling £598 5/8 wero passed for payment. Work on the Roadn. "On Hastings, Napier, To Mata and Lucknow roads wa have graded tho metal six feet baelc from the sealing on either side, thus giving the whole road a better camber and getting rid of all storm-water without delay, and preventing the breaking of the edges of the seal," said tho clerk, Mr W» H. Anderson, in his report. "Te Auto road necds 100 yarda of metal and Joll road the samo amount. On Campbell road tho storm-water is scouring at its intersection at Joll road tkrough there being no culvert under tho entrance drivo to Mrs E. M. White 's property. I would suggcst that the board consider the advisability of installing a culvert to prevent this scouring. The matter of widening Tanner street between Duart and Joll roads has been further taken up with the Labour Department but no reply has been received. "The cemetery extension job has been coinpleted and I would like to congratulate tho ganger and the men op. tho manner in which this work has been carried out. "The sanitary itispector reporte a elean bill of health aua the l'esult of all his inspections made duying the - xnonth is satisfactory, "Tho dump on Campbell road is in need of attention and arrangementa have been made to have filling dumped regularly to cover the rubbish.
