TIMARU, Last Night. Setting a hot paco from the start and covering the six and a-quarter-mile eourse in good style to finislx with something in resorve, C. Weller (West Coast, N,I.), claimed his second New Zealand cross-country chaxxxpignship at Timaru on Saturday. His first win and his seventh attempt was at Auckland last year, when J. W. Savidan, six tixnes title-holder, finished fourth. Otago fielded a strong team and regained the championship, which it last held in 11934, Auckland, last year's winners, filling second place, ln the individual aud teams eveuts xt was a case of favourites running t/ue to | forin, i A good opou eourse was selected for! fhe eVent, but fairly strong north-east winds made going harder and it was undoubtedly a stern test ef stamina. Weller emcrged with' flying colours. A. R. Geddes (Otago), another stronglyfancied candidate, was second to Weller 250 yards away, there being a gap of 40 yards between hina' and j. Logian (Otago).
