• WAIROA, Last Night. Charged with the theft on June 21 of £16, the property of lvy Elenor McIlroy, at Gisborne^ a waitress, whoie name was suppressed, pleaded guilty in the Wairoa Police Court before Messrs J. Corkill and V. E. Winter, J.P.'s. She was admitted.to probatiou.f'or oue year, and ordered to make restitution , at the rate of ten shillings a week. Sergeant Glark stated that aecused had no relatives in the eountr,y. She came from Auckland to Gisborne and * lived with. Mrs Mellroy, with whom she went down town. Mrs Mellroy dre'w some moriey from the post office, and the two women went shopping. At' one' etage- of the journey,. accused earried Mrs Mellroy 's handbag and extracted '£16, of which £2 was subscquently' returned. • . Accused at present was in work, and the sergeant understood that her position would be kept for her if probation were granted. TJufortunately, this was" not accused 's first offence, as she hadbeen previously convicted at Wellington. Accused' requested that her name be suppressed, as publication would cost her her job. ■
