THE OTAGO TOURING TEAM

Last .year the Otago team won its eight challenges for tne Ranfurly Shield, and only lost against Southland in the return match, played at Invercargill. This latter game was not, however, a shield game. This year the record of the Otago representative team is very different. Otago lost the only Ranfurly Shield game it was called on to play— its first challenge — against Southland. Otago also lost the return game against Southland at Invercargill. The Otago team then went on tour and lost four of the five maches it played. The only victory was a narrow one, against Wairarapa and Wairarapa had previously suffered heavy defeatl from other teams it had met. The Southland touring team did not have a much better record than Otago as it beat only South Canterbury and Wairarapa. Southland on the northern tour played South Canterbury, Manawatu, Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa, Wellington, and Canterbury. * i
