Car Industry Yields One Eleventh of Tax Revenues
LONDON. — The predominant ' part played by the automobile industry in Britain is reflected by statistics jusfc issued. Counting those employed in the production of raw materials, it is claimed that the motor trade xanks as the premier employer in the land. The numbers of those directly engaged in making, selling, repairing and operating motor cars in Britain have now reached nearly 1,300,000. Produets of the industry yield one eleventh of the nation 's tax revenue. • Last. year the motor industry was shown to be one of the country 's most favourable exporting industries. Exports were more than £12,300,000 in exeess of imports. There are now to every motor car 21 persons in Britain. The average car is a little over 12 horse power. About 97 per cent of vehicles are of tho closed, or sedan, type, although probably the majority of tliese have "sunshine roofs'3 which enable the tops to be slid back when the weather is Ane.
