TARADALE TOWN BOARD
Collection Of Rates The monthly meeting of tho Taradale Town Board was held last night, Present: Messrs. J. Williamson (ehairman), J. Wainscott, J. A. Wilkinsoa, W. H. C. Howard, G. Webb, and j. Gilmour. The Commissioner of Transport forwarded an extract from the N.Z. Gazette in connection with the exclusion of streets from the 30-milei-per-hour speed restrictions, which were in conformity with those decided upon by the board and which were for a timethe subject of objectiou by; the department. The ranger reported having impounded during the month four head of 6tock in the town district, and 41 head off roads in the Hawke's Bay county. The clerk and overseer, Mr W. g. Jarvis, reported that the work of widening Avondale road was completed, and the electric light poles were romoved to a new alignment." Preparatiou had been made to lengthen the culvert at the intersection of Meeanee road and King street. The work authorised at the river reservo was progressing satisfactorily. Old stumps had been removed and tho surface levelled in the worst placee. Trees "had been felled, and residento were permitted to take timber for lirewood. Material from the embankment at the entrance to the reservo had been utilised for filling in new street extension work. Of the current year's rates £1080 had been received and £120 of the arrears had been colleeted. Apparently £26 was allowed in rebates for payment mado before August 31.
