SHEEP FOR JAPAN
t 4 M Stud Corriedales From New Zealand
The Sydney Maru which sails from Lyttelton early in Soptember will carry approximately 1250 stud Corriedale sheep. This shipment represents a portion of the purchases which have recently been made through the stud etock department of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., on behalf of large Japanese trading concerns. During the past few months a co'nsiderable number of sliecp have been shippcd from New Zealaud and it is estimated that over 7000 sheep will have been delivered by the end of this year. The Sydney Maru shipment, togethor ,with a eonsignment of 1000 ewes which were shipped by the Melbourne Maru early in July, were purchased and selected by Japanese sheep experts early in Mareh of this year, and have been drawn from the stud flocks of the following well known Canterbury breeders:- — G. T. Baker, Culverden; J. Cocks, Ashburton; A. L. Craigie, Rakaia; A. E. Cross, Bennetts; Edward Ensor, Rangiora; J. W. Ensor, Domett; Robert Ensor, Rangiora; A. T. Evans, Hawarden; D. Gillanders, Dunsandel; J. D. Henderson, Halkett; H. S. Ingram, Culverden; Geo. Johns, Culverden; Johns Bros., Culverden; Estate H. T. Little, Hawarden; S. J. Martin, Seafield; N.Z. and Aust. Land Co., Hampden; H. A. Reese, Hawarden; Jaqies Reid, Darfield; C. A. Ridgen, Greendale; G. A. Ridgen, Aylesbury; H. B. Sliipley, Greendale; and D. and M. Sidel and Sons, Hawarden.
