Not To Play For Southland To-day

INVERCARGILL, Last Night. Mitcliell will not play against Ihe Springboks to-morrow. He announced this' deeision lo-night after receiving a telegram from Mr E. McKeuzie, chairman of tlie New Zealaud selection committee, whom he had asked wkotlicr the selectors wanted him lo play. The selectors advised him not to. It was al'so stated that Mitchell would play in a club match at Auckland on September 18, a week before the third' Test. Last Saturday Old Boys were witliout the services of two men and in order not to let his team down, Mitchell played in the back row of tjie scrum. He had two runs during the match but did not attempt to go flat out. Eronl those two runs two tries resulted. At half-time Mitchell left the field but his injured muscle was not affected by the forty minutes of play. The weather changed this afternoon and somo rain fell but unless more falls the ground will be in good order. There is a light wind to-niglit and tho prospects of a fine day to-morrow are less promising.
