NAPIER MUSICIANS HOLD BEETHOVEN EVENING
A programme chosen. entirely frotu the works of Beethoven was presented at the meeting laot evening of members of the Napier Musicians' Society which was held in Blythe's tea-rooms. Despite the inclement weather the attendanee was excelient and each itern received well-deserved applause from an appreeiative audience. Mrs L. J. . Prime, who arranged the programme, was also the aoeompaniste for the evening. ivfr i. L. Prime, the secretary of the society, apologised for the absenco through iliness of the president, Mr P. W. Tombs. One of the performers, Miss M. Caldwell, was also unable to be present on account of siekness. As a preface to the musical items rendered, Mr Prime read a paper on the life of . Beethoven. This was followed with keen attention by all present, and proved most interesting. The musical programme was then giveu and was as followe: — Piano solo, Sonata in E flat major, Miss Winifred McCarthy, L.R.A.M.; vocal solos, "Johnny's Awa' " and "A Prayer^" Rev. W. A. Mills; song, ' ' Ivnow 'st Thou the Land," Mrs A. M. Mowlem; violin solo, "Allegro Con Brio" and "Rondo," Mrs Anna Wilson, L.R.S.M.; vocal quartette, "Greation's Hymn, " Mrs Mowlem, Miss S. Robinson, Messrs J. Edwards and W. A. Mills; vocal duet, "Holy Night," Miss N. Prime and Rev. W. A. Mills; violin obliga^to, Mrs Anna Wilson. Members then enjoyed a pleasant chat, during which a light supper was served. A delightful evening was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
