Smith and sustaijxed. several cuts about the legs on Saturday night. After nxedical attention he was able to proceed to his home. One of the car headlaxnps was broken by the impact. Porangahau Ladies' Guild. The Porangahau Ladies' Guild held ite monthly xneeting in the supper-rooxu jf the Town Hall. There was a good attendance over which Mrs Oanning presided. The Rev. Mr Niblock gave a furtlxer address, and iinal arraugements were made towards the concert to be given later in the month. Afternoon tea was served at the conclusion of the meeting. Visiting Footballers Entertained, Rain fell with relentless consisteney throughout almost the whole of the St. Patrick's College football teanx's stay in Waipawa. On Friday evening a number of the boys aceepted the invi- . tatioxx of the Old Pupils' Association ' to attend the ball, and yesterday afternoon the whole party was taken to Te Aute College wlxere they were entertained with lxakas, songs and choruses by the boys. Conveyances for the party were provided by Rev. Father McDermott and Messrs. C. G. E. Harker, F. Eagle, D. Butler and D. H. Edwards. The team left on the return to Wellington by the xnail traiu yesterday morning. Seats Booked for Springboks. That thera will be a large contxngent from Dannevirke at the Springboks v. Hawke 's Bay match at Napier on September 15 is indieated by the rush for the reserved seats. Last wee!? the Dannevirke Rugby Sub-Union advertised seats available and the total allo- ■ cation of 200 grandstand and temporary stand seats was taken in three days. Rain in Southern H.B. Southern Hawke ;s Bay has received' a thorougk soaking during the past i week. Rain has fallen eveiy day this ! month so far, the following amounts I being reeorded at Dannevix-ke: Sept&m- j ber 1, .01 inches; 2, .03; 3, .29; 4, .67; I 5, .44, making a total of 1.44 inches. j Heavy rain fell again yesterday. Last month was a particularly dry one. Collision at Dannevirke. A motor-lorry owned by the Tamaki Dairy Co., Ltd., and a car driven by a Mr. Mallett, commercial traveller, of Auckland, came into collision about 9.30 a.m. yesterday at the intersection of the cnain highway and Law's road, Dannevirke. The lorry was slightly damaged, and the car was extensively snxaslied, necessitating its removal to a garage for repairs. No one was injured.
