Tbe first montbly meeting for tlu> season 1937-38 of tbe Hawke's Bay Jockey Club was keld in tbe Hastings racecourse tea kiosk on Eritlay. iJresont: Messrs. C. D. Beatson (ckairinan), Ct. Ebbett, F. P. Kelly, T. V. Morrin. G. Maddison, J. W. Wedd, T. Roulston, W. A. Todd and tbe Hon. H. A. Russell. Leave of absence was granted Messrs. T. H. Lowry and W. J. Wood. The resignation from the club of Mr. F. K. Dickson, wbo is leaving th» Dominion, was accepted. Advice was received from tbe N.Z. Racing Conference and Messrs. Walker and Hall, Ltd., tbat tbe Duke of Gloucester Cup had been fonvarded, togetlier with tbe two miniatures. Tbe sccretary, Mr. A. E. Wishart, informed tbe committee that tbe three tropbies liad been deposited with tbe Bank of New Zealand for safe cus toily. Tbe question of redomption of tbe H.BJ.C, debentures by - means of in-

1 surance poliey was discusscd. It was decided tbat tbe matter be left in tbe bands of Messrs. G. D. Beatson, F. P. Kelly and G. Maddison for invcstigation. It was resolved tbat tbe intercst on tbe debentures due on September 15 should be paid on tbat dato. Tenders for tho ensuing year's race meeting privileges are to be advertixed in tbe immediate future. After a short discussion it was decided to call tenders- for tbe club'« gcneral insurances. Beatson, said tbat tlie position was a most satisfaetory one. Accounts amounting to £61 6"/6 wero passed for payment, subject to tbe approval of tbe bonorary treasurer, Mr. J. S. McLeoa.
