"The Delver"!

(Dug .b.y

The first race each day at the Wanganui ineeting this week is to start afc 11.50 a.m., and the last race is set down for 4.45 p.m. Eight races will be decided each day. # * « D. Munro has been engaged to ride Talking in the A. J.C. Epsom Handicap, and Kilver Standard, in the Metropolitan. Should Gene Tout, owjng to liis accident, be jyithdrawn from bis spring engagements, M. McCarten is likely to have tbe mount on Maia in all his races. «= o ® Rival Hit's new Sydney owner, Mt F. Hughes, bas cabled tbe Cutts brothers to leave the gelding in bis New Zealand ciassics, so there is a possibility he may again be seen racing in the Dominion. Overtures were mado to L. J. Ellis to go to Melbourne to ride Willie Wm in his engagements, but he does not intend to visit Australia this spring. There should not, however, be mucl* difficulty in getting one of Melbourne's leading horsemen to do the riding. Sf # % F. D. Jones will be accompanied on his northern trip by J. Russell, who acted as his head lad for many years before taking up the position of stud groom with Mr H. D. Greenwood, at Teviotdale. Russell recently relinquished tliat post, and intends to settle at Riccarton again. ® «= « Among the New Zealand-bred stallions standing in Australia this season are Balmerino (All Black — Anna), 8gs ; lleputy Ruler (Chief Ruler — Duchess Endorus), 30gs; Theo (Limond — Mirabelle II), 40gs; and Veilmond (Limond — Veil), lOOgs. The last-named's list is fully hooked for the present eeason. * a Eavourites for the A.J.C. Epsom at latest advice are" Gold llod, Talking,

i The Chanter, Gay Chou, Tuckiar, and iSilver Rose. The Metropolitan leaders are Maia, Silver Standard, Curator Young Crusader, and Fireman. Mr George Cu'rrie wijl have two promising young filles to carry his colours in the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui next Saturday in Eabric (Liinond — V*1) and !M inga (Limond— Motloy) . Botli are quick beginners from tlie barrier and run very straight. I fack work would suggest tliat Minga is the morc brilliant, but there appears to 1x2 little^ betwecn them, and it may be tliat Eabric will provc tho bettcr stayer. w «= L. J. Ellis lcavos Riccarton 1'or Wanganui to-day. In addition to riding ltoyal Chief in the Elying, Handicap, he will have tho mount on Taitoru on the first day, and will also ride for S. Reid's stable. His mounts 011 the second day will include Royal Chief in the Wanganui Guineas, and Protector in the Debutant Stakes for two-\car-olds. Should Portector shape satisfactorily, he will come into favour tor the Avondale Stakes to be run on September 18. w The former New Zealand jockey, K. Voitre, who is still convalescent after his fall from Valiant Chief at Moonee Valley last September, is spending a holiday at Magnetic Island, a few ruiles from Tovvnsville, Queensland. He is swimming, playing tennis, and hildng Yoitre stated lie would soon return to Melbourne, and would begin tracfe riding immediately in preparation for the spring meetings. Thus, he will probably begin work early this month. 4v* w Before he was sold to go to Australia, the Son-in-Law horse Beau Pere left one crop of foals in New Zealand. Australian buyers were active at the yeariing saies for his stoek ; but several youngsters remain in the country of their birth and two are engaged next week at Wanganui in the Debutant Stakes. Lord Cavendish, by Beau Pere from Lady Cavendish), has a particularly pleasing appearance and is well thought of by tbose who have seen him in action. Lady Cavendish produced that sm art performer Golden Hair to Limond, so the Beau Pere colt ranks as ber half-brother. Amigo, another colt by Beau Pere, is out of Adorable, a Limond mare whose stock as yet have not been prominent on the turf.
