TUTAEKURI MOUTH

Further Blocks Needed on Groyne FAIR DEPTH MAINTAINED As the result of the recent Sooding in the Tutaekuri river, a good nioutb has been established, which is well off the north groyne. At to-day 's meeting of the Hawke's Bay Rivers Board, tho engineer, Mr. * G. Rochfort, reported that a few weeks ago the river worked its way on to the groyne, and the end of the structure had comoienced to sink. The groyne had 'held the inouth in position, which had maintained a fair depth. lt would be advisable, said the engineer, to put in further blocks at tho end of the groyne, and when the opportunity offered this work would be done. With the work done there was soniething on which to build, and the adding to the groyne at intervals would be advisable. In reply to a question by the chairnian, Mr. C. Lassen, as to whether tho river was cutting through the pug under the bridges, Mr. Rochfort explaiued that a supply of geiiguite was already on the job to break up the edge ouce the opportunity occurred. Thero was a drop of about three feet, and the river was not cutting it baek fast enough. Mr. Rochfort added that he anticipated that the explosives would be used to-morrow or on Wednesday. Once the pug was proporly broken up reiief would be given tb I draiuage. ' I mmmmmmmmmmmrnmmmmmmmmm wmmm
