A boomerang ball will be held next Thursday in the Haumoana Hall. Free bus leaves Westerman's corner. Members and friends of the British Legion, Hastings branch, are reminded of the old-time dance to bo held in the Buffalo Hall, Warren street, on Wednesday, September 8. The monthly meeting of the Hastings branch of the Hawke's Bay General Labourers Union of Workers will be held in the Labour rooms, Railway Road, on Tuesday, September 7, at 7.30 p.m. Much interest is being taken throughout New Zealand regarding the serious f all in the birthrate of tiiie country. Every woman concerned should endeavour to attend the leeture in the Foresters' Hall, Napier, on Friday afternoon, when Mrs. McBeath, district manager for Viavi, New Zealand. is to be the speaker. Humour and blindness would not seem to most people to mix very well, but Mr. Andrew Johnston has met much that is humorous in his experience since he lost his sight in France njneteen years ago. He will' relate many of these incidents and also much of public interest dealing with work and training among the blind in his leeture at the Baptist Church at 7.30 to-night. Admission is free and the public are warmly .invited to be present, Over ono hundred Scouts and Wolf Cubs will take part in tho camp iire at tli0 Hastings Municipal Theatre on Wednesday night, otlier districts having offered their serviees towards eslablishing tho Scout Hut in Hastings. The country commissioner, Mr. Areher Absolorn, will bo tho "camp chiof" and dcclai'e tlie camp fire open, and Mr. G. A. Maddison, Mayor of Hastings, will also speak. It is a matter for congratulation that such aceomplished performers and producers as Mr. Guy Hardonburg, Mr. Bentley, Mr. Saunrlers, Miss Jean Ballantyne, and Mr Leon Fail, with Mr. Krogh as stage manager, are giving voluntary servicos.
