WAIPAWA DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL BALL
A Bright Function WAIPAWA, Sept. 5. Not since Coronation night has the Waipawa Municipal Theatre presented such a brilliant spectacle as it did last evening, the occasion being the first annual ball of the Waipawa District High School Old . Pupils' Association. The hall was filled to capacity, dancerg having assembled from all parts of the district, there being a large numbei presant who had at some time attended the local school. No effort had been spared by the members of the executive eommittee to provide a good night 's entertainment, and the success which attended the function was ample reward. The hall had been tastefully decorated with flags and streamers radiating to the walls from an illuminated centrepiece bearing the letters ''W.D.H.S." and surrounded by flashing lamps, the whole looking very efcective. In the supper room the tables presented a very pleasing appearance with specially designed decorations of coloured paper and vases of bulbs. Prom a dias in the corner excellent music for the dancing was provided by an orchestra from Napier, and the duties of M.C. ■ were very capably carried out by Mr. E. C. Kingston. The programme included' several old-timc numbers and two specially arranged Monte Carlo dances, the prize-winners being Miss • Edna ClaTk and Mr. P. Harris, and Miss M. Hercock and Mr. Hopkins. For non-dancers bridge had been arranged under the direction of Mr. F. Adeane, and the prizes went to Miss E. Limbrick and Mrs. Dailey, and to Mr. Adeane and Mrs. Fox. . A delightful supper was provided, mainlv under the direction of Mr. H. Weedon,- but the arrangements could not have been carried out successfully without the loyal co-operation of his band of willing helpers. The supper extras were played by Mrs. Meta (piano) and Miss B. Hodge (banjo) and were greatly appreciated by the dancers. Extras were also played by Mr. Biel. Among those present were: Mrs. D. Hodge, evening frock of deep maroon lace; Miss Ireland, red satin frock with matching shoulder spray; Miss Squires, floral frock in shades of lemon and blue; Miss R. Baker, dainty frock of ice blue .satiu with silver bel't, aud worn with a short black evening coat; Miss Noele, nil green net frock, with tiny frills edged in silver; Miss MrBooker, amber taffeta 'frock and wide lapels stitched iu brown; Miss E.
