GAINSBOROUGH, Sept. 4. 1 • The Minor Counties opened impres-! sively with a partnership of 120 for] ihe lirst wicket against New Zealand. ltoberts was bowling with a fine combination of accuracy and length and a; disconccrting flight. Three, wickets fcll' qulckly after lunch, Gallichan Jaking two, one well caught at- the sight sereen and the other smartly stumped. The sixth wicket added 59 and the eighth 64, the bowlers having a difficult task on an easy wicket with a fast ?utfield. Gallichan bowled with well-controlled length and flight and wcll-earned his success. New Zealand batted for half an hour. Page, Yivian, Moloney, Tindill and Cowie were omitted from the New Zealaud team. The Minor Counties, embracing the best players of Bucks, Norfolk, Wiltshire, Suffolk, Devon and promising plfiyers from the sgcond elevens of JSurrey, Middlesex, Lancashire and Yorkshire, were as strong as most of the first-class counties. Maxwell is from Surrey, Butler from Wiltshirc and B. W. Rought-Rought is one of the noted cricketing brotherhood from Norfolk. Scores: — MINOR COUNTIES. First Innings.
