Talking and Maia Beaten In Canterbury Stakes

SYDNEY, Sept. 5. The chief interest at the Canterbury Park races on Saturday was the defeat of Talking, Maia and Lynch Law in the Canterbury Stakes, of six furlongs, by The Marne, who, however, had the run of the race besides drawing number one ' position. Talking was a real disappointment and finished weakly fourth, but Maia was flying at the fmish. The latter, like Lough Neagh and Sarcherie, found the distance too short. The chief results were: — CANTERBURY GUINEAS BRISTOL, 8.5 (McCarten) 1 1 Birthday Boy, 8.5 (Bartle) 2 : Bourbon, 8.5 (Parsons) 3 j Eleven started, including Perimond. i Half a head, head. Time, 1.56. CANTERBURY STAKES THE MARNE, 9.2 (Weiss) 1 Lynch Law, 8.0 (Bartle) 2 Maia, 9.0 (McCarten) 3 Ten Started. Half a neck; half a length. Time, 1.13 2-5. > FLYING HANDICAP, of £150; 6 furlongs. BULLDOZER 1 Moonray 2 Povertdale 3 The Palmist was unplaced in the second division of the Park Stakes. Red Clover was unplaced in the September Handicap. Bengal Lancor was unplaced in the third division of the Park Stakes. : Linklet and Capaneus were unplaced in the Ashbury Handicap.
