Young Englishman Arrested in Russia PURGE OF WRECKERS

(Received 4 11.30 a.m.) MOSCOW, Sept. 3. Charged with espionage, a young Englishman, Robert Vdlentine Bell, has been detained. at the Leningrad Ogpu gaol. The British Embassy is seeking an explanation and expeditious hearing of the case. Bell previously was eniployed at the Leningrad telephone faetory, but was discharged because of his British nationality. Ten officials at the faetory were shot last week as wreckers and terrorists. Bell was arrested a few hours after the executiona. Eight persons accused of sabolaging the vegtable supplies of Leningrad were eentenced to death. Two others were sentenced to ten years' imprisonment. A defence loan of 4,000,000,000 roubles launched to liquidate the consequences of the wrecking activities oi the Soviet generals executed In June was over-subscribed by 4,900,000,000 roubles.
