Japanese Land More Troops at Woosung CHINESE RAISE WAR LOAN

WELLINGTON, This Day. The following cablegram was received by the Chinese consul from Nanking last night: "Yesterday the severest fighting since the outbreak of hostilities took place in the Shanghai area. The Chinese forces at the North Station and Kiangwan seetors are holding out against powerful Japanese attaeks, while Chinese troops near the mouth of the Whangpoo river launched a counteroffensive against landed Japanese troops. "Two thousand more Japanese troops landed in the vicinity of the Woosung forls and Woosung village yesterday. The estimatcd Japanese reinforcements already arrived at Shanghai total three divisions, which are known as the Japanese crack forces. "Five hundred million dollars of Nation il Salvation bonds are being actively subscribed, and contributions are pouring in from Chinese overseas. Nearly 1,000,000 dollars was received yesterday. "
