The Rev. R. A. Noakes, domestio chaplain to the Bishop of Waikato, has been appointed curate at Taumarunui. Captaln E. O. Peterson, equadron leader of the recently-formed squadron of New Zealand Frontiersmen, has been elected commandant for New Zealand. Mr W. Fletcher, J.P., who has been in business at Port Ahuriri for some years, and whtf has disposed of his business and is removing to Taupo was met by thomembers of the Port Ahuriri Police and made the recipient of a pipe as an appreciation of the services he has rendered them during his 14 years' residence in Napier. Mr Fletcher left yesterday morning for Taupo, where he will live with his son. Sergeant G. A. Doggett, lormerly of Hastings and now of Dannevirke, has been promoted to the rank of seniorsergeant of police and transferred to Masterton, according to an announcement made yesterday by Inspector J. Fitzpatrick, of Napier. Sergeant T. H. Dyer, who isat prepcnt stationed at Masterton, will take over duties at Dannevirke.

\ Miss Cara Humphrias, a sister of Messrs John and Walter Humphries, of Napier who was touring in tlie Far East when hosbilities between China and Japan broke out, has not been iieard of since the bombing of the American liner President Hoover by a Chinese aeroplane. It was known that Miss Humphries was a passenger on the President Hoover from Shanghai.
