Large' Gathering at Dannevirke Ceremony

DANNEVIRKE, Last Night. The opening of the Dannevirke Scout Hall was carried out last evening by Gommissioner J. It. H. Cooksey, of Napier. Headquarters Commiseioner for New Zealand Training. Scouts were present from Palmerston Nortli and Pahiatua, and there was a largp muster of Dannevirke Scouts and Wolf Cubs. Miss Nancy Wilson, Dominion Commissioner for Wolf Cubs and Commissioners N. D. Stubbs and L. Callis were also present. The visitors were welcomed by Mr E. Bethel, chairman of the Dannevirke Scouting Association, who described the events which had led op to the realisation of the Seout House. The -Mayor of Dannevirke, Mr E. Gibbard, stressed |the usefulness of the Scoub movemont. The opinions of the young people of to-day would be the decisions of the nation to-morrow. Scouting encouraged boys and girls to think and .to act for themselves. instead of merely wondering all the timo what other people were thinkingi. The movement would provide citizens who would have a vision of the future instead of clingiing to the old ideas which had served their day and generation. Commissioner Cooksey said that Dannevirke was on the right lines so long as it looked after the young people in suek a manner as it was doing. Miss Wilson congratulated the Dannevirke Association on ackieving their aim of such a fine hall. whicli jvould g|ivo status to the town and link it up with other towns with similar halls
