Housing Scheme \ Mr J. A. Lee js visiting Nelson in connection witb tlie Government's bousing scheme. He announced opproval of tbe construction of tbe first eigbteen houses uuder tlie scheme. Intoxicated Driver A fine of £20 and costs, in default six weeks' imprisonment, was imposed at Auckland on George Alfred Wilson, aged 53, bootmaker, for being intoxicated in' cbarge of a car. He was involved iu a niinor collision witb a taxi. His licenee was suspended till May 31. 1938. Seaman in Court Kenneth George llcckwood, aged 25. seaman, pleaded guilty at Auckland to absenting liimself from H.M.S. Arcliilles without leave and receiving a gold watcfa and rings to tlie value of £26 5/-, stated to bave been taken from a home at Otaki by one of two companions he picked up with at Palmerston Nortb. Accused was sentenced to tliree months' imprisonment on one of the receivin^ cliarges, and seven davs on the other*tbe desertion charge was withdrawn on the grounds tbat tbe matter could best be dealt witli by tb© naval autkorities. It was stated tbat tbe man was on ioan from England, and probably would be returned tbere.
