SPORT FOR JEWS
"Green Ghettoes" in Germany VIENNA, Aug 11. An interesting picture of the position of Jews in Germany, which differs from the' general impression prevailing about them outside that couutry, is given by the secretary of the Austrian Hakoah Sporting Club, an athletic association confined to Jews. The Hakoah reeontly went to Berlin to attend an all-Jewisk sporting fcstival, and then toured Germany, apparently meeting no difficulties. On his return the secretary said that Jewish sport in Germany seemed to be tkriving, althouglr it was conducted in "a green gketto." He said that the out in the Grunewald a ' 'splendid Jewish community in Berlin have liad sports ground which is among the Jews practise athletics under the confinest in the country." Soma 40,000 trol of 20 Makkabi assoeiations, the membership of which. has geeatly increased through. the enlistment of Jews who formerly belonged to the "Aryna" assoeiations. Jews, however, have adequate athletic faeilities only in the big cities where there are large Jewish populations, as in Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, and Leipzig. In the smaller towns they have no opportunities at all.
