Strikers Forcibly Prevent Works Operations MELBOURNE TROUBLE (Received 2, 8.45 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 1. When the superintendent of the Bouth Melbourne works attempted to itart an essential portion of the plant, he was iorcibly prevented from doing bo. ' Members of the tstaff were also prevented from carrying out any operations. and all tools for operating the xctorfs and furnacas were removed by the strxkers. There will be no gas at all in Melbourne to-morrow. The company, in a statement. says that, if the present state of lawlessness is not immediately suppressed, tremendous" damage to the plant will be in•vitaole.
