Hacket, of Auckland, who, last week celebrated the 20th, anniversary of his appointment as editor of the New Zealahd Herald, was made a presentation at a staff gathering. Mr E. B. Davies, of Wellington, who has been for some time at the Macauley lnstitute for Soil Research, Aberdeen, has obtained the degree of doctor of philosophy at Aberdeen University. He is to return to New Zealand shortly. Mr F. A. Sandall, who lately completed a course at the School pf Lffirarianship, University of London, has been appointed acting-assistant librarian at Canterbury University College. Mr J. G, McDermott, who has been. on the staff of the Publie Trust Officq, Napier^ for the past three months, lef| .yesterday by the express train on transfer to Wellington. His duties are being taken over in the meantime by Mr D. Hogan, of the Wellington office, Mr H. Valder, pf Hamilton, attended the fifteenth annual summer conference. of the Industrial OQ-Partnership Association, at Glrton College, Cambridge, at the end of July, writes a London correspondent.
