FEW LAMING LOSSES
Sea-Gulls and Hawks - Troubiecome GRASS GROWTH STIMULATED Sbeep-farmers in Central Hawke's Bay liave had few losses in Jani&ing to date, but sea-guils and h'awks have been causing, coneern to some farmers. These birds attack the eyes of ewes and lambs, and wbile hawks can Le trapped, sea-gulls cannot. Lambs generally are in nne condition. One farmer told a report er that tliey are in better condition than for some years, giving promise of a splendid fat-lamb season. 'Lliere was mention *c sieeping siekness being troublesome a few woeks agio, but this does not appear to bavo been of widespread in lighter condition than usual hr consequence. In the Porangahau district ewes aro this time of the year, but lossis ju bot'r ewe;- and lambs have been siigbt. The rain during the past eight days has been of considerable benefit to pastures. 1'bougb not very heavy, it has been spread over a longv period, with the result that the moisture lias penetrated o a good deptb. There have been many instances of grass growth baving been stimulated. A few days of warm sunshine will bring about a rcsponse •. of spring growth. From a lambing point of view the conditions have caused no anxiety, for the weather has not been cold. Humidity was particularly noticeahle yesterday.
