Bankrupt's Record Strongly Criticised

GREYMOUTH, Last JNight. Iu refusing the applicatiou of Edward John Hill for diseharge from baukruptcy^ Mr. Justice Northcroft, in the Supreme Court, strongly criticised the bankrupt's record and said it was amuzmg that he had not been prosecuted. On the report of the Assignee,- His Honour added, the bankrupt was a man who in no circumstances ought to be ailowed to trade. He had twice ae-cu-inulated heavy debts and was now on probation for theft as a collector. Counsel for the bankrupt said that Hill had been employed by a Wellington firm fbr the past year and tliat his employere were satisfied with him. His previous record was black and stupid, but he was ashamed of it. j His Honour refused to diseharge thc bankrupt. He said that possibly five years henee, if the bankrupt lived a decent, reputable dife and displayed. honesty and trustworthiness, the Court might feel justifieh in letting him loose on the community again.
