Maori Woman Charged with Offence JEALOUSY ALLEGED

WANGANUI, Last Night. The sequel to a stabbing affair -in which a scttler of Jerusalem, Albcrt Edward Davey, was injured with a knife on J'uly 28 was lieard in thc Wanganui Hospital this morniug bcfore Justices when Kathleen Waitoa, a Maori, pleaded not guilty to a chargo of eausing actual bodily harm. Who was committed for trial. Dav.ey's evidence diwclosed that Waitoa came as a housekeeper but that they had started living togethor, he being separated from his wifc. The accused, he said, became very attached to liim after he had nursed hcr through' a sickness. 3he became very ,-jealous of him. They had frequent quarrels and. she displayed uncontrollable tcmper and in quarrels somei:itues as^aulred him. Ile tried to persuadc- her to l'-fiib, lxit she refused. Later, in the kitclien, she liit him witk a fire shovel and broom and bit him on an arm. He smacked licr across the faee with his ojjen hand. She grabbed one of two butchers' knives. Jic endeavoured to take this from hcr. Wkilc she was on hcr knees she swung rouud and stuek the knife into his cliest. Dr. Widdowson, medical superintendent of the hospitai, said that th;e wound was from to two inches dcep. Davey 's chances of recovery wcre now quite good.
