Standard-Wage Announcement Awaited

WELLINGTON, Last Night. A deeision to arrive at a settjement on the machinery clguses only, and then adjourn to a dgte to be arranged, was reaclied in the Conciliation Council hearing of the Dominion printing tradea ' dispule to-daj- after the comtnissloner, Mr M. J. Reardon, had read a telegram from the Arbitration C'ourt indicating that there was no certainty at present as to the date when the pronouncement regarding . standard wages would be available. Mr E. W. Olarksqn, agent for the employers, sqid that, if the Court announced weekly rates for skilled, semi- * skilled and unskilled workers, those rates would neeessarily bacome the rates for the printing industry. Mr K, Baxter, agent for the workers, . said ihe worlccrs thought tlie minimum wage rate for tlie industry should be the hourly rate fixed by the Court and gpplied on a i0-liour week basis. The. conmiissioner said he was won-. dering whether the council was pqrticulqriy interested in the Court Js pronouncement. It seeiued tq him that the greater part> at least, of the trade was highiy skilled, and that at the present time the workers were Teceniug a . better wage tlian they could reasonably cxpect the Court to award.
