REGENT THEATRE
"A STAE IS EOEN." "A Star is Born," which sereeu. tonight, is a film which can be honestly recommended for its brilliant portrayal of the rise from obscurity to fame of a young country girl with ambition. Tho handling of this somewhat stereotyped subject is entirely novel, and the film is remarlcable for the ability of its actors, and its moving portrayal of the joys and sorrows, the exultation and pothos which marlc the life of the great. It is a refreshingly new Janet Gaynor who is presented in this picture — a Janet Gaynor who sparkles with life and sincerity. Praise must be given to Adophe Menjou as a producer, to Fredric March, v ho gives an excellent portrayal of the one-time idol, now fallen, and, finally, to May Robson, wlio adds greatly to the humour and sincerity of the film. As the title indicates, the picture portrays the rise of a little country girl to Hollywood stardom. Iu the picture the audienee shares with Esthcr Blodgett, portrayed by Miss Gay nor, the heartaches and happiness. the gaiety and despair, that go into the ultimate crowning of a motion picture star. And in her travels she visita many of the fatnous spots in Hollywood. which are shown in technicolour for the first time.
