INF0RMAL SALE AT ST. MATTHEW'S GUILD
Members of St. Matthew's Guild oi Pellowship held a small informal sale of work at their meeting yesterday afternoon, Mrs P. J. Hull presiding. over the sale. The hall was brightened with gay boAvls of flowers on the small tables dotted about the room and though the weather was most unpleasant many members were present, several pounds being added to the funds. The seeretary, Mrs H. de Denne had previously been busy arranging three excellent competitions and during the afternoon was assisted by the guild president, Mrs Barton Hobbs. The Rev. Konneth Liggett, actingvicar, reminded everyone of the St. Matthew's Patronal festival this month. Tuesday, September 21 is St. Matthew's , day and throughout (tb« week in which this day falis there will be special church servieeS and social gatherings. Mr Liggett said that in English churches the patronal festival meant a great deal to the parish--loners and he hoped that the people in Hastings would also be interested. Members were pleased to welcome home Mrs Mortimer-Jones after her holiday in Auckland, and everyone enjoyed afternoon tea arranged by the hostesses, Mesdames Houston, Brand and Sharkey.
