GUARD YOUR BEAUTY AGAINST THE SNOW

The cold, of course, is wonderfully axhilarating for the complexion, and snow sports, which are being enjoyed this month by many folk, isoon send tho blood coursing swif tly, giving colour to your cheeks and firming the rnuscles. All the same, sudden drastic weather conditions do affect some complexions disastrorjsTy unless proper precautions are taken. So if you are going to try your skill at winter sports, you must guard your skin against the harsh effects of wind and glare; and if a red nose is your particular trouble when the temperature is bolow zero( then you must iind something to overcome that defect, for nothing is less becoming than colour in tho wrong place. Before you leave for your holiday, pack into your suitcase a good suppiy of pure olive oil, cold cream for cleausing, nourishing cream, camphor ice, and make-up cosmetics. Olive oil is splendid for protecting und preserving the skin against the ravages of sun and cold. On the Continent, where snow sports are extremely popular, many women smear their i'aces with olive oil before going out into the open air, and nse no powder or make-up other than a bright lipstiek.

This shiny appearance suits some women very well, and you may iind you can get away with it, too. If not, apply the olive oil before you go our, allow to soak in for a few minutos and wipe offi tho surplus. Then sinootli ovei gently a little fomndation cream and appty your rouge and powder. As a rule^ you will iind it better to avoid tho lighter powders — deep creams and peaches usually appear to best advantage in the cold. At night before bed, cleanse the skin thorouglily" with cleansing cream or olive oil, then dab with a skin tonic o r wash in tepid water and olive oil soap. Before you jump into bed smooth in plenty of rieh, nourishing cream and leave on all night. If your lips have become chapped with tho cold, ruh on a little camphor ice. In tho daytime, before applying lipstiek, help to prevent chapping by applying cold cream or lip salve first. Avoid moistening the lips with the tongue, as this will cause chapping, too. If you keop them soft with cream or sjalve, you won't feel any desire to relieve that drying feeling. If your eyes are sensitive and especially if you are inclined to line easily around the eyes, wear good sun glasses to counteraet the glare of the sun on the snow) which can be much harder on the eyes than the sun in summer. And, linally, do not forget, when you go on a holiday ln the snow that olive oil and cosmetics contaiuing olive oil are among the most valuablo protectives you can tako with you for guarding your skin.
