AUCKLAND, Last Night. "I have more ambition in life than shunting cows round." "I do not intend to be a dry nurse to cows. ' ' These two statements are samples of the reasons given why young men in the city on sustcnance are not prepared to accept work in the country. Information compile4 by the Placement Office at Auckland dis close ;a marked aversion by young. men receiving £1 a week to work in the country when oft'ered £2 2/6 weekly and their keep. Single men on sustenanee have been, informed that work is offering in the country, -and in the event of non-aceeptaiice they are asked to state their reasons for refusal. So far ten have accepted. out of 300. The general tenor of the replies is that they do not like cows, farm work, or; country life.
