Young Driver Given Probation

AUCKLAND, This Day. A motor-truck without a rear light was observed. by the police passing through Avondale on Saturday eveuing, and when stopped at a service Btation the driver. Allan Bruce Chisholm, aged 21, was found to be intoxicated. When charged at the police station this morning he admitted the olfence, stating that he had been without food since breakfast. Liquor had been taken to celebrate a football victory, and it had unduly aRected him. The police gavo Chisholm a good character, stating that ho was the sole support of his_ mother and two other relatives. Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., said he made it a rule that in such cases he wonU take licenses away from offenders, but he was prepared to treat this as an exceptional case. "You aro a young man, well spoken of, industrious and of good character,* ' said the Magistrate, "You will be admitted to probation for two years on condition you take out a prohibition order for that period." Chisholm was fined 5/- and costs for driving without a rear light.
