Cabinet's Approval of Harbour Construction (By Telegrapb— Presa Association.) GREYMOUTH, Last Nigbt. Word was received to-day that the Cabinet bas approved of the construction of a harbour at J ackson Js Bay, Soutb Westland, about 200 miles soutb of Holdtika. Tbis "will open up probably the greatest. remaining atea of timber in the Dominion. It is understood that a jetty is to be constructed in the harbour wbicb, because of its deepness, will accommodate large vessels. The harbour is capacious : and well sbeltered, being open to the wind in only one quarter. The project will facilitate the work of road construction to link up with the southern provinces, and will open up the pastoral country in* Westland County and Soutb Westland. At present Jackson 's Bay can be reached only by a bridle track from the road head at Bruce Bay. According to reliablo estimates there are 65,000 feet of timber to the acre in areas near Jackson 's Bay. A great proportion consists of white pine, while other timbers well represented are rimu, totara and silver pine. Many varieties of minerals are located in the district. The scheme is the most auspicious development in the history of the far southern district.
