Tangoio Meetrng Mrs H. "W . C. Baird, of Hastings, gave an addrcss on hcr travels in China and Japan at tbe August meeting of tbe Tangoio Women's Institute, beld at tbe residence of Mrs Osborne. Mrs Lowo presided. Three visitors, Mrs Baird and Miss McMicbael. of Hastings, ,and Mrs Tborp, of Napier, wero welcomed. Tbe competitions for tbe montb were: Home-made soap, Mrs Sinclair 1, Mrs Rowa 2; best lettuce, Mrs Mabony 1, Mrs Orr '2. A saies table in cbarge of Mrs Osborne did brisk business. Afteruoon tea was served by tbo hostess. Mrs Orr, and helpers. Meeting at Ruakituri Mrs Berry presided over a good attendance at tbe meeting of tbe Buakituri . .Women 's Institute. Birtbday greetings wero - received from tbe federation executive' and from tbe Tiniroto Women's Institute. Following the Golden Tliread, Miss L. Spence gave a sbort talk- on tbe beauties- and industries of Nelson and tbe surrounding -distriets. Tbe entertainment .circle read an amusing j>lay, "Tbe Bride.,r by Gertrude , J Omiings. Tboso taking part were Miss L. Spence, Mrs Dayis, Mrs Winder, Mrs Hugbes, Mrs ■ Butler and Mrs Berry. Tbe visitors judged tbe cake for tbe competition, tbe winner being Mrs Davis, witb Mrs Evans second. Mrs Gavin made and iced tbe birtbday cake wbicb Mrs Campbell, president of t.bo Tiniroto Women's Institute. cut. Mrs • Butler dcmonstrated tbe inaking of ' ' ' cberry cupies. ' ' Mesdames Davis and Winder were bostesses for the day. Sherenden Institute At tbe August meeting of the Sherenden Women's Institute a talk on China by Mrs H. W. C. Baird, of Hastterest, and tbe tbanks and appreeiation of tbe meeting were expressed by presenting to Mrs Baird a dainty shoulder spray. , Ai't'cr afternoon-tca tbo competitions were judged by Mrs Baird. As it is tbe institute 's montb for tbe Children 's llonie, tbe competitions Arero all we!J contcsted, and tbe floral exhibits brought fortb many beautiful eutries also.
